About Me: Chronic Illness Advocate, Storyteller & Photographer

Hi, I’m Ainsley, an Auckland, New Zealand-based photographer, writer, and chronic illness advocate. I create empowerment photography, storytelling content, and lifestyle articles focused on endometriosis, chronic illness, slow travel, and (occasionally) Egyptology. Welcome to my space where creativity, personal stories, and a love of history collide — and where your story matters too.

My Creative Journey

From a 7-year-old travel lover to a 30-something photographer, my journey has taken me from my first tattoo in Indonesia to creating a career in slow travel, documentary storytelling, and authentic visual content.

I’ve been a curious, nerdy kid since way back — whether burying my head in Egyptology books in primary school or publishing my own travel newsletter as a teenager (before blogs were even a thing). Exploring and sharing the world has always been my passion, and storytelling became my way of giving life to experiences that matter.

Over the years, my work has taken me to over 40 countries and across multiple continents. Along the way, I’ve worked as a fish and chip shop server, promo girl, event planner, waitress, teacher, background actor, bartender, nanny, and stewardess on superyachts — all experiences that shaped my perspective. But three things always stuck: photography, writing, and Egyptology.

Empowerment Through Storytelling & Chronic Illness Advocacy

As someone living with chronic illness, I find the most meaning in projects that make people feel less alone. Much of my recent work focuses on endometriosis, chronic illness awareness, and creative empowerment. Through documentary photography, advocacy writing, and visual storytelling, I aim to highlight experiences that are too often overlooked and celebrate the strength, resilience, and complexity of living in a chronic body.

Slow Travel, Creativity & Ancient History

I also create content around slow travel, lifestyle storytelling, and underrepresented perspectives. From sharing travel adventures to deep dives into ancient Egyptian history, I enjoy blending curiosity, research, and creativity to help others explore the world and their stories.

PS. I’m currently completing my degree in Ancient History/Egyptology, so while I’m not yet a qualified Egyptologist, I’m always excited to share what I’m learning or point you to resources.

What I can do for you.

I create empowerment photography, storytelling content, and lifestyle articles for individuals, creatives, and brands. My focus is on chronic illness, endometriosis, slow travel, and authentic visual storytelling.

Whether you’re looking for a photoshoot, content creation, or a documentary-style project, I tailor every project to your story and goals — helping you feel seen, empowered, and celebrated.

What is empowerment photography?

Empowerment photography is all about capturing you in a way that celebrates your strength, resilience, and uniqueness. My approach focuses on helping people feel seen, confident, and proud of their bodies and stories, exactly as they - particularly for those living with chronic illness or endometriosis. It’s not just a photoshoot; it’s a storytelling experience that puts you at the centre. Find out more here.

Do you offer chronic illness or endometriosis-focused photoshoots?

3

Yes! I specialise in photography projects that highlight chronic illness, endometriosis, and lived experiences in bodies that don’t always cooperate. These shoots are designed to be comfortable, empowering, and safe, allowing you to express your story visually.

Are you available for travel or destination photography?

4

Absolutely! I love creating travel, lifestyle, and documentary photography anywhere the story takes us. I’ve photographed across multiple continents and over 40 countries, capturing both landscapes and meaningful human stories. Reach out if you’d like to discuss a destination project — I’m always excited to explore new places.

I’m based in Auckland, New Zealand and do most of my photoshoots here, but I work globally through both in-person and remote projects. Whether it’s a local photoshoot, travel project, or virtual storytelling session, I can collaborate wherever you are.

Of course!! While I specialise in chronic illness and endometriosis empowerment photography, my approach to authentic, creative storytelling works for anyone who wants to celebrate their individuality, life experiences, or passions. That includes wedding photography, family photoshoots, and personal branding sessions. Empowerment photography is truly for everyone.
